Two wolves were caught by camera traps in the Pilsen region. Watch out for dogs, local hunters warn

--

Hunters have warned local residents to watch out for their four-legged pets. “We ask citizens to always keep their dogs on a leash when walking in the woods and not let them roam freely. At the same time, we ask them to stick to the main backbone roads and cycle paths when moving in the forests,” said Lohr.

The wolves appeared already on April 19. “We knew from the beginning that there were two. But unfortunately one record was deleted by a colleague from the photo trap. That’s why we have documented one by one,” he said.

He then consulted the images with colleagues from the Ore Mountains, where the beasts live. “And they unequivocally confirmed to us that they were wolves,” added Lohr. However, it is not clear whether they are a couple or separate individuals.

“The fear of wolves is artificially perpetuated by the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood.” The Ministry overturned the decision allowing them to be shot

The hunters have dozens of camera traps in the 2,000-hectare hunting ground. The record from mid-April is the only one available so far. “Wolves could just run through and disappear. We don’t know that. Even so, we wanted to inform the residents just to be sure,” he explained. They haven’t found any downed animals yet.

Lohr said that the beasts also moved nearby in the vicinity of Holýšov. In Brdy, their occurrence was confirmed by experts from the Czech Landscape Protection and Nature Agency.

According to them, wolves in the country live mainly in the border areas. Packs consist of three to eight individuals, mostly parents and their young. The size of the territory varies according to the amount of food. In Central Europe, it is possible to count on an area of 200 to 300 square kilometers. Roe deer, deer, pigs, but also farm animals become prey.

Mayor Martin Sobotka (Aktivní Dobřany) mentioned that, in addition to wolves, four lynx live in the local forests. Lohr specified that it is Vysoká and Šlovický vrch again, and the area towards the Líná airport. “Last year we even saw the tracks of a lynx cub in the snow,” concluded the landlord.
