In the middle of the glass lecture hall, architect Jan Polách explains how ecological operation works so that not much energy or water is consumed. “There is a photovoltaic power plant here. The energy from this is used for the area of the botanical garden. Rainwater is treated here, which is used secondarily for watering, and there is recuperation in the air conditioning system. And the waste heat from these spaces is used back to heat hot water and domestic hot water,” explains Polách.

Dean Martin Kubala pointed out that the oldest and now the newest building of the Faculty of Science can be found in the botanical garden. It will be used not only by visitors but also by students from the winter semester.

“There are valuable collections in the botanical garden and they are used by students for teaching and some research projects. And currently, a lecture hall has been created in the building, where students have facilities for teaching. However, we expect a much wider use. Those spaces are also ideal for various popularization events or even some smaller scientific conferences,” mentions Děkan.

The area of the botanical garden has been operating since 1901. Visitors can see approximately 1,500 species of plants from all over the world.
