“There is a very diverse group of people, whether volunteers or employees of the National Memorial. It includes a lawyer, a car mechanic, a construction manager, a biochemist, as well as two-time Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hašek,” Aktuálně.cz journalist Jan Hejl describes the group directly from Lviv. brought field ambulances from Prague to Kiev, which will save the lives of soldiers, among others, from the most elite units.

“How is this possible? They helped Israel, we have to put up with it,” described a journalist from Ukraine | Video: Martin Novák

“One car was taken by the Kraken elite unit. They are volunteers who have been fighting against the Russians for more than two years, embarking on the most dangerous actions in the gray zone, penetrating into areas where the Russian army operates and also doing diversionary actions,” he says of the special Jan Hejl, deputy editor-in-chief of Aktuálně.cz, helped get the “shipment” of field ambulances to Ukraine by the Memory of the Nation organization. “The ambulances will be used by paramedics, who will then treat the elite of the Ukrainian army,” adds the journalist, who in the coming days will bring reports from his trip to the war-ravaged country on Aktuálně.cz.

According to Hejl, there was relief among Ukrainians after the Americans approved the long-delayed military aid in the amount of 61 billion dollars. “It’s certainly a relief, but at the same time I felt frustration from them that it’s taking a long time,” explains the reporter, according to whom Ukrainians also resonate with the fact how quickly the allies helped Israel with the threat the state faced from Iran, while they he has to “endure every night” from the Russian side.

The journalist also describes meeting Ukrainian soldiers, often badly wounded from the fighting, which he says was paradoxically full of optimism, because a large part of them firmly believe that the attacked country will win. As a prime example of how the inhabitants of the country think about the war, he presents the meeting with the thirty-five-year-old Oleh. “He was treated for eight months and is going to the front again. The day after we spoke, he went to the Mykolaiv region, where he has been fighting for four or five days. He survived a serious injury, but that did not prevent him from going to the front again and he fought for his homeland,” adds Hejl.
