--

Flash mob with more than a hundred tap dancers, rhythmic Tap Jam, dynamic workshops, and above all, a show with star guests from here and abroad. It invites everything from May 9 to 12, 2024, the 10th anniversary of the Pilsen Step Festival. The European dimension of the largest tap dance event in the west of Bohemia is confirmed by the performance of international stars. The multiple world champion from Switzerland, Daniel Borak, will come for the first time with his Tap Dan’s Company. Along with guests from Czech and foreign studios, the Pilsen tap dancers will also demonstrate their art. The highlight of the festival will be the traditionally big Tapařská show in Měšťanská beseda, on Saturday, May 11, from 7 p.m.

On the very first day of the festival, Thursday, May 9, tap dancers will invade the streets of Pilsen. First, from 4 p.m., they will demonstrate their art in the streets of the center, then from 5 to 5:30 p.m., they will dance together right on náměstí Republiky. More than a hundred participants of all ages will present themselves in a joint flash mob to the tap anthem Shim Sham.

On Friday, the festival invites you to a hot new event – a performance by Tap Dan’s Company, the dance group of the phenomenal tap dancer and choreographer Daniel Borak. The performance, which starts at the ALFA Theater at 5 p.m., is a fusion of tap, contemporary, modern and hip-hop. “We are thrilled to have secured the excellent performance of Tap Dan’s Company from Winterthur, Switzerland for the festival. It’s an international project, they perform all over the world,” she said for the organizers of the Pilsen Step Festival Kamila Borovská, the owner of the Step by Step studio. Tickets can be purchased via the festival’s website www.plzenskyfestivalstepu.cz, where interested parties can also find the complete program.

Friday evening in the DEPO2015 cafe will be TAP JAM, original tap dance improvisations to live music by the Tap Jam Band, which is composed of excellent musicians from Pilsen (piano Erich Ciompa, bass Roman Hasnedl and drums Ivan Audes). It starts at 20:00 and entry is free.

On Saturday, May 11, tap dancing will take place again in the open air. Tap studios and groups from the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany and Switzerland will demonstrate their art on the U Branky outdoor stage from 10:30. In the afternoon, a workshop open to the public will be held in the DEPO2015 Studio from 3:30 p.m., led by world champion Igor Bezdieniezhnykh, where it will be possible to try tap dancing for yourself. Tap shoes will be available for rent on site. Admission to both of these events is also free.

The highlight of the festival program will be the big Tapařská show on Saturday, May 11 from 7 p.m. in Měšťanská beseda. Together with the stars of the international scene, which will include, in addition to Daniel Borak and his Company, Kira von Kayser (Germany) or Igor Bezdieniezhnykh (Ukraine), tap studios and soloists from Prague, Pilsen, Hradec Králové, Poland and Germany will also perform. The evening will be accompanied by Roman Vojtek and Petr Borovský. Tickets for the Tapařská show are available through the Town Talk system.

On Sunday, the festival will conclude with workshops for registered tap dancers.
