Sculptures in the streets arouse passions this year as well. Under fire from critics this time is an improved thresher called Hermit | Culture | News | Pilsen Gossip

The third year of the Sculptures in the Streets project once again evokes great passions. And he hasn’t even started yet. So far, part of the total number of 11 installations has appeared in the public space in Klatovy. And again, the object on display at Rybníčky captures it the most. Last year, a large part of the population did not like the installation with a kayak placed on top of a strange structure. This year, a work called the Hermit, which is an old wooden thresher, is under fire in the same place. Unfortunately, during the first exhibition of the project, vandals vandalized some of the exhibited works, including one sculpture repeatedly.

There will be no shortage of controversial art this year either. “As part of the third continuation of the festival, the works of selected graduates of the sculpture studio of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague Socha 2, led in the years 1995-2016 by the sculptor prof. Jindřich Zeithaml. The studio was focused on abstract sculpture. During the half-year duration of the show, the works will be installed in eleven places in the city center and will, as is traditionally the case, enliven the public space of Klatov. The opening with a guided tour will take place on May 11 from 3:00 p.m. in Hostašový Sady. informs Gallery Klatovy / Klenováwhich organizes the exhibition.

So far, people are leading a heated discussion on social networks, especially on the subject of the realization called The Hermit by Kryštof Kaplan. “Well, seeing that makes me feel like a cultural Neanderthal. I still only see a thresher with some gray bag. I kind of see it as the craftsmanship of our ancestors, but certainly not art in the sense of a sculpture.” comments on the work Line. He reacts more amicably Marie: “It is funny!!! For today’s children, a thresher is more exotic than a UFO, an attraction stranger than a centrifuge. “Grey bag” for the more thoughtful as a metaphor for the complex times in which we live and which cannot be broken down easily. I thank the author for the courage, inspiration and finally starting this discussion!’

And the discussion continues. “It’s unreal, any scrap they put on the square and it’s art,” he says Frankie. “You queen.., a thresher and now it’s art,” another glossator stated dryly Josef. “The annual tradition is observed as far as I can see. But after all, it’s nice, a Russian tank can also be parked there in the future.” he says again George. “Can’t you last the six months? But then again, you have to admit that this is better than what was there last year and the year before.” she answers him Martin. Another installation is already receiving criticism. Someone described the work displayed on Náměstí Míru as “a block with pipes sticking out of it. And in the underpass under Plzeňská street there is a “hidden hoop.” In these cases, these are sculptures by Jakub Lipavský and Pavel Hošek. On the other hand, I like the sculpture by Lucie Procházková, which can be seen at the Pod valy intersection.

A vandal repeatedly attacked the statue of a young man in briefs

Unfortunately, the very first show was marked by a repeated vandal attack on the popular bronze statue of a young man dressed in briefs, intently watching a mobile phone in his hands. For the first time, an unknown perpetrator just knocked over the statue by the author Jakub Vlček, located in Křížová street, next to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, and it suffered scratches and a crack. After the attack, the damaged statue was quickly repaired and after a few days it was returned to its original location. The second time someone knocked over the statue, but then she lost both hands and the author estimated the damage at 450 thousand crowns.

Even before the opening of the previous year’s opening, someone repeatedly vandalized two works located in the Hostaš gardens with a single manuscript by scrawling various inscriptions on them with a marker. Just before the start of the show, the sculptures were cleaned. But the residents of the city literally fell in love with a number of sculptures from the first event. The greatest popularity was gained by a pair of laminate hyenas by Irena Armutidisová, which were placed on the edge of Náměstí Míru. A huge number of people took pictures with the hyenas every day, and they were liked by both children and adults. Undoubtedly, the second most popular statue was the bronze young man with a mobile phone, which was lying in someone’s stomach.

Last year, as part of the Sculptures on the Street project, graduates of the University of Applied Arts in Prague from the studio led by Kurt Gebauer exhibited their works. The biggest uproar was caused by an installation by Zdenek Dvořák, which many critics uncompromisingly described as waste from a collection yard.
