The start of the four-day celebration of the liberation of Pilsen by the American army is scheduled for Friday, May 3, from 6 p.m. on Republic Square. During the ceremony, the American student marching band Stuttgart Legacy Drumline will perform, and thirty cadets from the American military garrisons in Ansbach and Vilseck, Germany will present themselves in a weapon exhibition. Space at the opening ceremony will be given to military history clubs, without which the celebrations of the liberation by the American army would not have the appropriate atmosphere. On Náměstí Republiky, accompanied by the Pilsner Jazz Band, they will perform not only some of the military equipment of the period, but also formations of members of the Czechoslovak and American armies of the time. The festive evening culminates with a concert by the Jazz Without Borders Big Band with a big musical star from Los Angeles, the famous singer Chuck Wansley.
In addition to Náměstí Republiky, the cultural program will take place in Pobřežní Street, near the General Patton Museum, where folk and country music enthusiasts will enjoy themselves. The concerts will be presented by musician and presenter Míša Leicht. The third scene called LIBÉ RTY will be created in Kopecky orchards. It is mainly dedicated to young people and its program composition is based on the influence of American culture, especially music, on the Czech scene. “Genres such as blues, country, bluegrass, rock’n’roll or psychedelic rock found support among Czech musicians, and they further developed their foundations here with the ‘Czech sound’.” The selection of groups floats across the mentioned genres and shows how several decades of development have affected one of the freest professions and created new fusions,” said Jiří Kunc from the Pilsen branch of Memory of the Nation, which is behind the dramaturgy of the LIBÉ RTY scene.
