Exactly one year ago, 1,200 signatories signed the petition “Against the merger of the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc (MFO) and the Moravian Theater Olomouc (MDO)”.

Another 1,200 signatories signed a petition on the Internet a year ago, where today a total of 2,500 citizens have signed it.
Since October 2023, approximately 400 signatories have signed the petitions at concerts in Reduta and currently at the red pianos in the city. More than 4,000 citizens signed the petition.
Last year, more than 70 personalities of cultural life in the Czech Republic and Olomouc (from J.Suchý to J.Vičar) expressed their disapproval of the merger to the mayor.
They are joined today by other personalities on the zachrantemfo.cz website!
Voices of clear disagreement are held by opposition representatives and also by listeners at philharmonic concerts (the mayor’s speech at the New Year’s concert was interrupted by applause).
Mr. Deputy Tichák, the author of the merger idea, is still deaf to all reservations.
Today, none of the original reasons apply anymore – financial investigation, joint building, contribution legislation of organizations, etc. – everything is replaced by vague terms efficiency and education, which of course cannot be the reason for the merger.
Mr. Deputy does not believe or understand that his vision will, on the contrary, bring significant financial costs, possible social problems for employees, a significant limitation of the performances of the MFO orchestra and great disappointment for the citizens of Olomouc.
However, the players of the orchestra and the employees of the MFO still believe that they will convince the city hall of the senselessness of merging the MFO under the MDO! They are preparing a number of specific events, e.g. the “Save the MFO” concert at the Summer Cinema on Monday, May 20, 2024, to which I cordially invite you.
After a year of negotiations, it is clear that the disagreement with the merger is huge and across the company in Olomouc and the entire republic!
I still believe that an artificially created problem can be solved by maintaining the status quo. In addition, deputy Tichák repeated several times at the council meeting that every resolution of the council can be revised. I think now is a unique opportunity for that!
