The theater was busy a few days ago. Together with the audience, the actors celebrated the January success of Zdeňk Trčálek, who at the Grand Festival of Laughter in Pardubice won the award for the best male comedy performance of the year for the role of Adam Fojtík in the romantic comedy Thirteen Times as a Witness. The theater immediately reacted to the success, added another performance and prepared another program.
Sold out to the last seat, the Slovak Theater first watched the 30th rerun of the comedy Thirteen Times as a Witness, which was followed by a lively debate with Zdenek Trčálek, director Lukáš Kopecký and the play’s author Jan Šotkovský. It was he who wrote Thirteen times as a witness directly on the body of the Slovak ensemble and Zdenek Trčálk.
“The show was very successful. The theater was full, which is always a great joy for us, and the audience was warm and welcoming, you could feel that they were enjoying it together with us,” Zdeněk Trčálek smiled with satisfaction. “But I’ll admit frankly that I was much more nervous about the debate than about any performance. So, just to be sure, I took two small prunes to calm down and then I enjoyed the conversation as well,” reveals the main star of the evening with a laugh.
The debate was followed by an autograph session. “We clapped with the audience, handed out a few signatures on cards and posters together with our colleagues and went home satisfied. It was a really beautiful, nice and pleasant evening,” concludes Zdeněk Trčálek.

As a prize for the best male performance of the year, Zdeněk Trčálek received a huge gingerbread at the Grand Festival of Laughter. “I’m looking forward to eating it together with the audience during the celebration,” he promised right after he accepted it on the stage of the Pardubice theater. However, in order to reach everyone and so that the audience does not have to worry about breaking their teeth on the January pastries, the Slovak Theater approached pastry chefs from the Industrial, Hotel, Medical and Higher Vocational School from Uherské Hradiště. The vocational training teacher and her charge from the first year baked four brand new gingerbreads.
“It’s better for gingerbread dough if it’s baked a little ahead of time and then moistened. So as soon as the theater approached us, we immediately made the dough, which also has to sit, then we baked the sheets of dough and decorated them only in the week before the event,” explains Dagmar Matyášová, vocational training teacher.
The confectioners did a great job with the Grand Festival of Laughter logo that decorated the gingerbreads. “I received a photo from the theater, I enlarged it and edited it. We outlined them, rolled out and cut out the coated materials, and used glaze on the writing,” explains the teacher. “With us, every order deserves the same respect. Therefore, at first the students had no idea for whom and what they were creating, but when they asked, I told them the whole story and then they already knew that they were working for the Slovak Theatre. Although we haven’t tasted them ourselves, we have a lot of experience with gingerbread,” adds Dagmar Matyášová.
One of the four gingerbreads was even more special than the others. “The confectioner’s girls created really wonderful replicas of my Pardubice gingerbread, which had been hard as a stone since January. And one was even gluten-free, so I could enjoy it too,” reveals Zdeněk Trčálek. “I was very worried about the gluten-free one, but in the end it was said to be better than the classic ones,” concludes Dagmar Matyášová with a smile.
