Here, as well as in other places on the territory of Pilsen, they had to police officers from Pilsen solve almost 90 thousand events last year. Among them, those that involved saving human lives. In June, for example, they helped a young woman who ran to their office with a limp child in her arms. They opened his airway and fortunately the child survived. Another time, after a few days, they freed an elderly woman trapped in her own bathroom, from where she would otherwise have been unable to get out without outside help. And they pulled a drunken young man out of the rail yard on the Pilsen – České Budějovice line in time, who narrowly escaped death.

Such was the year 2023 from the perspective of the Pilsen Municipal Police, which it describes in detail in its annual report. It follows that the largest percentage of the work of city police officers was the solution of traffic violations. “There are several reasons, one of them being the enormous increase in the number of vehicles, the lack of parking spaces, disregard for traffic signs and the recklessness of some drivers. Such behavior causes the streets to be impassable, endangers pedestrians or creates dangerous situations leading to traffic accidents,” explains Pilsen Municipal Police Commander Petr Nováček.

The annual report then showed other interesting statistics. Three tens of thousands of received calls on the emergency line, 1700 captures of animals or more than a hundred supervisions at events. “The numbers show that last year our officers were busy. And that’s just a fraction of their work, which we all appreciate,” says councilor for security and crime prevention Jiří Winkelhöfer, adding that last year’s launch of the Security Portal was successful, allowing the caller’s location to be located and video transmission from the scene of the event to be carried out. All you need is a smart phone with data transfer.

“The police officers also cooperated with the Pilsen Municipal Charity and provided emergency care for the elderly. In the event of a sudden deterioration in health or abilities, seniors can call for help by pressing a button on the bracelet. Currently, 92 clients are involved in this program,” says the councilor.
