The regional assembly of ANO in Pilsen revealed on Monday, April 29, the leader who will lead the movement to the regional elections in the Pilsen region. He is Kamal Farhan.
“Kamal Farhan is a doctor by education, currently a Member of Parliament and also my party colleague who is an expert on healthcare. We are good friends so I vouch for Kamal. She is the ideal person who should lead the governorship and, for me, clearly the strongest leader of all the candidates. Today we decided on this at the regional assembly, which also approved the entire regional candidate list. I will support her from the seventh place,” Pilsen Mayor Roman Zarzycký (ANO) said on Monday, who already denied reports on his Facebook profile on Sunday that he should run for office himself.
Farhan commented on his election by saying: “I was born in Pilsen, I went to kindergarten, school, gymnasium and then college there, and I got my first job there. On weekends, I go to Šumava, where I spend my free time. I will not allow this region. I live here. I love it here. I have family and great friends here. Well, one of them, the current mayor of Pilsen, Roman Zarzycký, likes Pilsen, came up with the idea that as a strong patriot and today actually a seasoned politician from the Chamber of Deputies, I should give back to my beloved region at least part of what it has given and enabled me to do. I changed my mind. He discussed it with his wife. He discussed with colleagues in the movement, gained their support and finally made an important decision. I will lead the candidate of the ANO movement in the Pilsen Region to the elections this fall as a leader. Today it was unequivocally approved by the regional presidency of the movement,” said Farhan after his election, adding: “I appreciate it. Really a lot. Thank you for the trust. But on the other hand, I know how binding it is. The elections are approaching and the movement’s candidates must be a functioning team of experts and enthusiasts who will convince the majority of voters in the elections that we are the best ones who should currently be in the leadership of the Pilsen Region,” added Farhan.
A total of 55 representatives will be elected in the Pilsen Region during the regional elections. Regional councilors have recently increased the number of seats in the regional council – due to the increase in population – from the current 45 seats to 55.
Other candidates who will appear in the top twenty are, for example, the mayor of the Plzeň 3 municipality David Procházka, the mayor of Lochotín Ivana Bubeníčková, or the mayor of Doubravec Tomáš Soukup.
