The best devices for top care

The recipient of aid, the Neonatal Department of the Olomouc National University Hospital, has been the holder of the “Baby Friendly Hospital” title since 1999, which is awarded by UNICEF to workplaces with excellent results. It has an intensive and resuscitation care unit that boasts top results in saving premature babies (in 2023, a baby weighing 433 g and 27 cm long was born here).

High quality newborn care also includes the support of bonding, a process essential for every newborn baby. For him, in addition to medical specialists with long experience, technically advanced equipment within the so-called non-critical infrastructure is also important.

The first moments of life in absolute peace

In contrast to the critical infrastructure (buildings, power distribution, information networks and basic equipment of delivery rooms), despite the long-term balanced management of the hospital directly managed by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, it is still not possible to allocate sufficient funds in the budget for this, even though it is an extremely important matter that has an impact on every child newly born in the maternity ward of the sixth largest hospital in the Czech Republic.

“Immediately after birth, hormonal changes occur that establish the overall stability of a child’s life. This happens best with an immediate and lasting connection with the mother. Bonding, skin-to-skin contact, cannot be replaced by anything. A baby experiences a basic existential sense of security in loving arms, which FN Olomouc supports bonding, but it is not enough in itself. The new pulse oximeters allow for perfect monitoring of vital functions during bonding: absolute calm is maintained during the first hours and days. That’s why they are expensive devices are needed so much,” explains the pioneer of Czech neonatology care, the former long-term head of the neonatal department of the Olomouc National University Hospital and the well-known pediatrician and Olomouc patriot Lumír Kantor.

An example of modern corporate giving

The motivation of the owners of the LORIKA company, David Martinek and Jakub Krištof, to implement the “Miracles of Birth” campaign has three levels.

The first of them is the intention to anchor a fragmented approach to corporate giving, with which the current management is advancing the LORIKA company’s long-standing tradition in the field of goodwill. The second level is the desire to strengthen the perception of the role of the Olomouc University Hospital as an important medical facility in the territory of the Olomouc region and a place that, through its expert activity, directly affects the quality of life of hundreds of thousands of its residents. The third level is purely personal – the children of the two managers of the largest Czech supplier of personal and industrial hygiene were born in the maternity ward of the Olomouc University Hospital.

“Jakub and I welcomed our children in the maternity hospital in Olomouc. Mine came into the world quite dramatically. My wife and I appreciated the perfect attitude of the staff all the more. Because LORICE is doing well, we want to help where, despite all our efforts, the funds for the best possible care are not available It has its technical and financial limits, which we will now move together with the general public and business colleagues,” said David Martinek about the campaign.

Donor benefits

The campaign is thinking not only of the smallest children, whom the result will help at the start of life, but also of enlightened donors. For those with a donation covering one percent of the target amount, it offers in return a media presentation as partners that should be publicly appreciated.

The ambition of the campaign is also to articulate the willingness to support key non-profit places in the region for their importance, which is not measured in money, but in new lives. The “Miracles of Birth” campaign will symbolically run until June 1, which is International Children’s Day and World Parents’ Day, and donations can be made through the Wakawai donation community platform.
