A heavily drunk driver ran off the road

On the evening of Saturday, April 20, before eight o’clock, a serious traffic accident occurred on the approach to the D5 highway near Ejpovice in the direction of Prague, during which a BMW passenger car left the road and ended up an incredible 170 meters further into the barriers.

According to the information, the driver drove off the road on the right-hand corner of the road, drove more than a hundred meters along the drainage channel, before hitting the concrete ring of the canal. The impact sent him criss-crossing both lanes of the on-ramp, where the car left the road again, hit a traffic sign, and continued about sixty meters down the slope and then up the freeway embankment before being stopped by the guardrails before entering the freeway, where he was left hanging.

It was reported from the scene that the driver was injured, so all emergency services went to the accident. Firefighters secured the scene of the accident and carried out firefighting measures, while paramedics took over and transported the driver to hospital for treatment.

“The driver, born in 1976, driving a BMW wanted to enter the D5 highway near Ejpovice in the direction of Prague, but he was unable to do this maneuver and the vehicle crashed into the ramp barriers. The driver’s breath test was positive with a result of 1.89 per million of alcohol in his breath,” added the information by the police spokesperson, stating that the accident will continue to be dealt with by police officers from the Svojkovice highway department, who have initiated criminal proceedings in the matter on suspicion of committing the crime of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance.
