Collapse of care at Masaryk Hospital? There is no danger, claims the management of Regional Health

--

“It’s a combination of both, the group around Malý and the personnel-disrupted ARO at Masaryk Hospital. But the collapse of the ARO is the worst,” said a well-informed source who does not want to be named, but the editors know him. According to him, the Ústí Hospital is asking other hospitals to take care of acute operations, and the operation of all surgical fields is said to be cancelled, which is already cut down by blocked subsidies.

Stopped subsidies will not threaten us, KZ said. If necessary, they will pay for the projects from their own funds

However, the chairman of the Board of Regional Health Ondřej Štěrba (ANO) does not see the situation as far from that extreme. “I definitely deny the alarmist voices that there will be no care, that we will relocate people from Ústí to Prague. That’s simply not the case,” Štěrba assured, saying that he had spoken about it an hour ago with the director of Masaryk Hospital, Aleš Chodacký.

“I don’t have any signals from him that something extremely urgent is suddenly happening. It certainly won’t happen that someone dies without help, either in the hospital or on the streets, just because we don’t have anesthetists. Elective care will be limited to a maximum. This means that someone who was supposed to go for surgery in May, and wait for it, will go for it in June,” added Štěrba.

According to the chairman, personnel disagreements at KAPIM escalated during the last month, and both the director of Masaryk Hospital and the general director of KZ intervened in their resolution.

“It was decided that the head Marek Nalos, who worked at the clinic for less than half a year, will leave on May 1,” Štěrba recapitulated, adding that the management of the KZ met the prevailing opinion of the medical community inside the clinic, that it is desirable from the point of view of further calming Nalos did not participate in the further management of the clinic. Here, the mayor Petr Vojtíšek will lead to the announcement of bankruptcy. Nine anesthesiologists are also leaving the clinic, but five of them are going to other KZ hospitals in Děčín and Teplice.

That is also why, according to Štérba, there should not be more serious problems. “Certainly there will not be any transfers outside the region, so that someone who needs acute care does not receive care,” assures the chairman.

The building is closed, no one is allowed inside.

“Perhaps there will be some transfers during planned operations for a limited period,” admits Štěrba, adding that until the situation is stabilized in terms of personnel, some operations may take place in Ústí in Děčín or Teplice, but in case units. In addition, the KZ management is intensively negotiating with the Bulovka Faculty Hospital regarding assistance during business operations.

According to Štěrba, the case of ex-director Malý, who was picked up by NCOZ, does not represent a fatal problem for KZ. And that’s not because the Ministry of Regional Development (MMR) has suspended subsidies due to the investigation. “It is a sum of 154 million crowns from five projects and 39 public contracts. This is the amount that, with a turnover of 13 billion per year, we can cover from savings or from the economic results,” stated Štěrba, adding that there is also a strong assumption that the MMR will resume the use of subsidies after the economic audit.
