Some would perhaps welcome an overall increase in the maximum permitted speed on our highways from 130 to 150 km/h, however, the legislative change provides for this increase only on certain sections and under certain conditions, i.e. it must not be wet or heavy traffic.
We also contributed to the big debate about faster highways, with our reasoning that we don’t need higher speeds, but rather more highways and lanes. After all, as the Czech Republic, we are a rather busy transit country.
Anyway, to date, there is no highway section in our country where, according to the new legislation, it would be possible to legally drive at 150 km/h. Such a place is still being planned.
This section will also serve as a test section. It will therefore be the only one in the country for a while, and after evaluating the usefulness and benefit of this change, the Ministry of Transport will further decide on the deployment of other sections with a maximum permitted speed of 150 km/h. In general, however, these will be modern sections that meet strict safety parameters.
And how will such a section be marked? Similar to Germany, i.e. with variable traffic signs, which will, however, be able to set a lower speed than 150 km/h or 130 km/h, for example in case of bad weather or heavy traffic.
So we still have time for 150 km/h on the highways, so for now drive no more than 130 km/h and don’t forget to check the validity of your highway stamp, i.e. the validity of your driver’s license. Several hundred thousand of them are ending this year!
