Billions of crowns lie in the bankrupt Sberbank. People haven’t asked for them yet

This is the second extension in a row. The payment started on March 18, and the original deadline was April 15. Then the court allowed its extension until May 15.

It was requested by insolvency administrator Jiřina Lužová, stating that about 8,400 creditors out of a total of more than 15,300 have applied for money so far. More than 45 percent of creditors have not responded.

Out of the amount of 56.8 billion, 52.8 billion crowns were paid. Approximately four billion more remains to be paid.

According to the administrator, the high share of unpaid creditors is due to the total number of creditors and their structure, where the absolute majority of creditors have claims of less than 1,000 crowns.

The money is paid out by Komerční banka

“Some creditors, for example legal entities and people living abroad, have to prepare some additional documents, which may take some time,” Lužová told Novinkám recently.

“If they didn’t manage to withdraw their money by the deadline, they would have to be included in the final schedule. This would mean that they would receive their money much later,” she added

Payout requires an active approach from creditors, they must submit documents to verify their identity and make the payment. Natural persons can come to any branch of Komerční banka to process the payment.

Legal entities must contact Komerční banka’s corporate centers or directly to their corporate banker. An online application can be submitted in the case of payment up to a maximum of one hundred thousand crowns.

The Prague Municipal Court declared bankruptcy on Sberbank CZ at the end of August last year after the Czech National Bank legally revoked its banking license at the beginning of May. Steps to revoke the license were initiated by the CNB on February 28, 2022.

The majority of deposits up to one hundred thousand euros, i.e. roughly 2.5 million crowns, were paid out to savers by the Financial Market Guarantee System in the same year, as they were insured by law. The remaining money is paid out of the bank’s sold assets and savings.
