The pad scandal
The film tells the story of the iconic photographer Elizabeth Lee Miller, who lived a dramatic life. Raped in Brooklyn at the age of eight, she soon became interested in photography and modeling. She started with him in the 1920s, was photographed by a number of famous authors, but her career was ended by the scandal surrounding Edward Steichen’s photo, when the company Kotex used it as part of its advertising campaign for menstrual pads. It was the first time a woman had appeared in this type of advertisement, and it caused great discomfort to both the author and Miller.

During World War II, she became a respected war correspondent for Vogue. She reported on key events such as the bombing of London, the liberation of Paris or the Buchenwald and Dachau concentration camps. Her nude photograph in Hitler’s bathtub in the Leader’s Munich apartment became famous. She was friends with Pablo Picasso, Paul Éluard and Jean Cocteau, she was the lover of the famous photographer Man Ray.
Due to visits to concentration camps, she suffered from depression in her later years, and in the 1940s and 1950s she was followed by the British secret service MI5 on suspicion of being a Soviet agent.
Kate as muse and reporter
The titular heroine will be played by Kate Winslet, whom Kurasová met during the filming of the successful film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and who, according to her, perfectly fulfills the combination of a charming muse and a courageous reporter. Her husband, curator Roland Penrose, will be played by Jude Law.

The film is a co-production between Great Britain and Australia, and will be filmed in the second half of September on the mentioned beach and in the wider area of Dubrovnik. Thanks to the so-called film incentives, foreign productions get back 25 percent of the eligible costs they spend during filming. According to the FilmNewEurope server, the project will pay off for both parties, in addition to money for local services, the Croatian coffers will also bring profit from city fees, which are paid here for everyone who wants to film outside the city walls, right inside Dubrovnik.
The producers are planning the premiere for next year.
