ONLINE: Ukraine is involved in terror in Moscow, claims Russia | iRADIO

--

Russia’s investigative committee said on Thursday it had obtained evidence of ties between the perpetrators of the recent terrorist attack in Krasnogorsk, near Moscow, and Ukraine. According to the statement of the committee, Ukrainian nationalists provided cash and finance in cryptocurrency to the attackers, writes the Russian agency RIA Novost. According to the United States, however, the Islamic State is solely behind the attack, White House security spokesman John Kirby said on Thursday. IS claimed responsibility for the attack again the same day.

The Russian Investigative Committee also reported on Thursday the arrest of another suspect in connection with the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall concert hall, he was supposed to have participated in the financing of the operation.

Russian security forces detained 11 people in the first 24 hours after the attack, and eight of them – including four suspected perpetrators – are in custody, Reuters wrote. Most of them come from Tajikistan.

The four alleged attackers appeared in a Moscow court on Sunday and heard charges of committing terrorism. As the AP reported on Thursday, they showed signs of beatings, while one of them appeared to be barely conscious. The BBC previously released footage from the court and noted that one suspect was brought in in a wheelchair.

The attack, which left at least 143 dead, has been repeatedly claimed by the Afghan branch of the Islamic State terrorist organization, which has also published footage taken by the attackers during the killing spree. Kyiv strongly denied any ties.

Russian investigators claim that the perpetrators of the terrorist attack received “significant amounts” from the territory of Ukraine, which they used in the preparation of the attack on the concert hall, Kommersant wrote.

“On the basis of work with detained terrorists, examination of technical equipment seized from them and analysis of information on financial transactions, evidence of their connection with Ukrainian nationalists was obtained,” the Russian Investigative Committee said, according to Kommersant.

Russian authorities detained over ten people, including the alleged perpetrators, due to the attack. Most of them come from Tajikistan.

Moscow, which has been waging a large-scale military offensive in Ukraine since February 2022, has previously suggested that the attackers were linked to Ukraine. Kyiv categorically refused any participation.

Disputes about the involvement of Ukraine

The United States warned Russia of the extremists’ plans a few days before the event. The Islamic State has repeatedly claimed responsibility for the attack, which has also published footage taken by the attackers during the killing. Washington on Thursday called the new Russian claims “nonsense”.

In addition, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack again on Thursday, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the group’s spokesman on social media.

A terrorist attack in a concert hall in Krasnogorsk on the outskirts of Moscow claimed the lives of 143 people and hundreds of people were injured, according to the latest official balance sheet of the Russian authorities.

The Bloomberg agency, citing four sources with ties to the Kremlin, wrote a few days ago that although Putin connects the terrorist attack in Krasnogorsk with Ukraine, people from his own circle disagree. Putin said on Monday that the attack was carried out by radical Islamists, but he wants to know who organized it. Again, he indicated a connection with Ukraine.

The Kremlin chief took part in discussions in which officials agreed there was no connection between Kiev and the attack, but he remains determined to use the tragedy to try to unite Russians in support of the war against Ukraine, Bloomberg wrote. The head of Russia’s FSB secret service, Alexander Bortnikov, meanwhile, claimed without evidence that the attack by Islamic radicals was aided by Ukrainian and Western secret services.
