Several people were injured today in a drone attack on factories in Russia’s Tatarstan, more than 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. According to press agencies, this was announced by local authorities, who connect the incident with Ukraine. The Ukrainian server RBK Ukraine, citing its source, wrote that the Ukrainian military intelligence HUR was behind the operation and that the attack was aimed at the Shahed drone assembly plant in the city of Yelabuga. Kyiv has not yet officially commented on this.

It is unclear whether the attack caused more damage. The head of autonomous Tatarstan, Rustam Minnichanov, admitted that drones attacked industrial enterprises in the cities of Yelabuga and Nizhnekamsk, where a large oil refinery is located, but he minimized the extent of the damage in his report.
“No serious damage is reported, the technological process has not been disrupted,” he said on the Telegram social network. However, according to Reuters, a source from Ukrainian intelligence claims that the damage caused by the airstrike on the military target is considerable. According to the Meduza portal, some Russian telegram channels write that the dormitory complex in Jelabuz was damaged.
“Unfortunately, there are injuries in the city of Jelabuga,” added the head of Tatarstan. The Russian TASS agency, citing emergency services, wrote that six people were injured.
American media reported last year that mass production of Shahed drones based on the Iranian model was planned to begin in the city of Yelabuga. The Russian investigative portal Novaya Gazeta then reported that several hundred students of the secondary polytechnic school in Jelabuz began assembling the drones.
Ukraine, which has been facing more than two years of Russian aggression, has stepped up its attacks on Russian regions in recent weeks. It focused mainly on oil refineries and other industrial enterprises. Earlier, according to the media, it hit targets deep in Russia. This year, drones have already carried out several attacks near St. Petersburg, which is more than 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Ukrainian officials claim that Kiev has drones with a range of over 1,000 kilometers at its disposal.
