Among entrepreneurs, confidence in the economy increased in April by 3.6 points in industry and by 2.6 points in selected services). In the construction industry, confidence decreased by 2.4 points in a month-on-month comparison, in trade it decreased only slightly and fell by 0.3 points.
“Economic sentiment among entrepreneurs is gradually improving. Nevertheless, many entrepreneurs are still limited by insufficient demand, limited availability of selected inputs and, in some sectors, also a lack of qualified employees,” said Jiří Obst, head of the CZSO’s economic research department.
Confidence of consumers increased for the fourth time in a row. Their confidence indicator rose by 3.9 points to 103.8. The share of respondents expecting a worsening of the overall economic situation in the Czech Republic for the period of the next twelve months decreased for the fourth month in a row.
The number of consumers assessing their current financial situation worse than in the previous twelve months decreased, but the number of respondents expecting an improvement in their financial situation in the next twelve months did not change. The share of consumers who believe that the current time is not suitable for making large purchases has remained the same.
“The growth in consumer confidence from the previous three months continued in April. Households especially rate their current financial situation better. Fears of a worsening of the overall economic situation in the Czech Republic are decreasing. Consumers’ fears about an increase in unemployment are also falling significantly. Fears of further price growth are even at their lowest level since December 2009,” commented Veronika Ptáčková from the CZSO’s economic survey department.
