As we already reported on Hokej.cz, former national team forward Robin Hanzl is leaving Timrå after three seasons. But the clever Czech remains in the Swedish top flight, Malmö Redhawks have signed him until 2026.

40, 30, 33.

Hanzl collected so many points in the regular season of the previous three seasons. In the team scoring, he finished second twice, fourth once.

The 35-year-old center will now wear the jersey of the Malmö Hawks in his next seasons.

“Robin is a very solid hockey player who has maintained a high level in Europe for several years, and not only during the last three seasons in the SHL. We appreciate Robin’s two-way game and want to take advantage of his fine game feel, which is at a really high level. We are very happy to welcome an experienced player of Robin’s caliber who also knows the league from before,” said Redhawks sporting director Björn Liljander.

“It has maintained a high level in Europe for several years now.”

While Hanzlova Timrå lost 0:2 in the preliminary round this year, Malmö did not advance to the playoffs by two points. Three other Swedish clubs were also interested in Hanzl’s services, and he finally decided to settle near Copenhagen.

“Moving to Malmö means an exciting challenge and a new adventure for me. I had quality interviews with the club’s management – and the decisive thing for me was the feeling that they really wanted me here. My task will be to fulfill their expectations and contribute both offensively and defensively,” Hanzl told the club’s website.

“The decisive thing for me was the feeling that they really wanted me here.”

He has been working abroad since the 2017/2018 season. From Litvínov, with whom he won the historic title in the spring of 2015, he first went to Nizhnekamsk, Russia. He subsequently moved to Spartak Moscow, and after Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, he headed to Sweden.

There, he had the most primary assists of any player in the entire league this year – 20.

“My way of playing has always been like this, I look for smart passes, which probably helps me with my experience. I have been in Sweden for a few years, but I still feel young and fresh. I want to contribute more than just offensive play, but of course I’m happy when things go well going forward as well.”

The hard-working attacker represented the Czech Republic at the 2017 and 2021 World Cups. How will he fare in his new position in the north of Europe?
