The rosters for the World Cup in the Czech Republic are slowly crystallizing, Switzerland will also draw at least four legionnaires from the NHL this year. The official union website reported on the movements in the cadre.

New Jersey will release a trio of Swiss hockey players for the championship in the heart of Europe – specifically, goalkeeper Akira Schmid, defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler and offensive star Nic Hischier.

The Devils captain has a similarly privileged position in the national team as he does at the club level, two years ago he even led Switzerland with a tag on his jersey. In the past, Hischier already started at a total of four world championships.

Overseas this year, he maintained the high standard from the previous season: during 71 games of the regular season, he collected 67 points (27+40), ranked third in team productivity. But New Jersey missed the playoffs for the tenth time in the last twelve years.

In three years, a solid spot in the Devils lineup was also won by the shapely quarterback Siegenthaler, another stable member of the national team. Goaltender Schmid, on the other hand, shuttled between the NHL and the farm in Utica, and will now seek his first nomination.

Scorpion Philipp Kurashev will join the Helvetic Cross team after a breakthrough season in Chicago. “Swiss players represent our country overseas in a great way,” says head coach Patrick Fischer.

“They will all enrich our team with their playing qualities and personalities on and off the ice,” believes Fischer. He can count on four reinforcements from the best hockey league in the world from the following week of training.
