Striker Otakar Šik is returning to Karlovy Vary, one level higher, after two seasons in the first league Jihlava. He immediately agreed on a two-year contract with the parent club, which also includes a one-year option.

Šik started alternately for Energie from his teenage years, but he never won a stable place in the starting line-up, so he commuted between loan spells in Sokolov, Brno Kometa and most recently in Jihlava.

It was in Dukla that he made noticeable performance progress: last year he scored sixteen goals in 32 games, making him the second best scorer in Jihlava. This year, due to injury, he only played in 38 first league matches, in which he recorded five goals and thirteen assists.

However, at 24 years old, he represents an interesting promise for the future.

“Ota is another of our foster children. He has had very good seasons in Jihlava, where he was one of the scoring players. Therefore, the time has come for him to get a chance to fight for a place on the A-Team. We believe that he has the potential to play stably in the extra league one day,” said Daniel Tobolka, its manager, on the Energie website.

“I have a lot of motivation to grab a place in the lineup and prove to everyone, and especially to myself, that I can do it.”

“I had an offer from another extra-league club, but Energie was a priority for me. Just from the point of view that I’m at home here and I’ve played here almost my whole life,” reports Šik. “I have a lot of motivation to grab a place in the lineup and prove to everyone, and especially to myself, that I can do it.”
