Accidents at railroad crossings tend to have serious consequences. Drivers who enter there at a critical time out of inattention or in the dubious belief that nothing can happen to them endanger themselves and the passengers on the trains. From the beginning of this year, a caught stuntman will pay a steep fine and lose six points. Pedestrians must also expect penalties.

With the amendment to the Road Traffic Act valid from the first day of this year, the amount of fines was also adjusted. “If a driver enters a railway crossing when it is prohibited, the policeman imposes a fine on the spot from 4,500 to 5,500 crowns, in administrative proceedings the driver faces a fine of 7 to 25 thousand crowns. At the same time, the driver of a motor vehicle is recorded 6 points in the driver’s register,” police officer Jiří Plesar confirmed to Děník.

Even pedestrians do not escape when crossing the level crossing when they are lowered, or the barriers are already lowered or the light signaling reports an approaching train, without a fine. “Pedestrians are threatened with an on-the-spot fine of up to 1,500 crowns,” added Plesar.
