Five people died and about 20 were injured in a bus accident on a highway in Germany near Leipzig. The police reported it. FlixBus, which owns the bus, said there were 53 passengers and two drivers on board. According to detailed information, the bus, which was traveling from Berlin to Zurich, Switzerland, went into a ditch, where it overturned on its side.
The accident happened on the A9 highway, which connects Berlin with Munich. The bus crashed near the junction of the A9 with the A14 motorway from Magdeburg to Dresden.
“The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet known. We are also currently unable to provide an exact balance of the injured and the dead. We are of course cooperating with the local authorities and rescuers,” said the FlixBus carrier in a statement.
The newspaper Bild wrote about the victims that their identities are not yet known. He also said that both drivers survived the accident.
According to the media, about a hundred rescuers intervened at the scene. Helicopters flew in for the injured. The Leipziger Volkszeitung wrote that hospitals in the region had declared an emergency and were preparing to receive dozens of wounded.
The A9 highway had to be closed in both directions after the accident, according to the Saxon police. The police subsequently called on the drivers who remained in the convoys on the X social network to follow the rescue lane for the passage of ambulances, policemen and firemen.
