Fuel prices in the Czech Republic rose at the beginning of this year, by the end of February they rose by almost three crowns on average. They have stagnated or fallen slightly during March. Compared to the same period last year, Natural 95 is currently 1.71 crowns more expensive per liter than a year ago, and the price of diesel is almost 3.50 CZK/l higher year-on-year.

According to analysts, the development in the following week will probably copy the past one. XTB analyst Jiří Tyleček expects similar price increases for gasoline as in recent days, while in the case of diesel, on the contrary, he expects price stagnation. “The slight reduction in wholesale fuel prices can be balanced by the weaker Czech currency. The situation on the oil market seems to be relatively calm and there are no major factors yet that should significantly affect fuel prices in the coming weeks,” said Tyleček.

However, a more significant increase in price is expected in April. According to Trinity Bank economist Lukáš Kovanda, fuel prices may rise above the psychological level of 40 crowns per liter next month. The cause is a combination of several factors, from cuts in oil production, a weakening koruna to the effects of attacks by Yemeni rebels on oil tankers and further increases in geopolitical tensions. The head of the 4Trans company, Jaroslav Ton, also warned against similar price increases, according to which, if oil does not become cheaper, the price of fuel may increase by 1.50 to 2.50 crowns per liter in April.

In a comparison of regions, fuel continues to be sold the cheapest in the Ústí Region. A liter of gasoline there costs on average 38.08 crowns and diesel 37.94 CZK. Long-term motorists pay the most in Prague, where Natural 95 is now on average CZK 39.51/l and diesel at CZK 39.45/l.
