“Five people died in the accident,” local police spokesman Olaf Hoppe confirmed to Bild. According to him, the situation at the scene of the tragedy is unclear.

The bus sustained extensive damage

The collision threw passengers and crew from their seats and the bus sustained extensive damage. The accident occurred on a bus heading from Berlin via Nuremberg and Munich to Zurich around 9.45 am. 53 passengers and two drivers sat in it.

According to the emergency medical service, which deployed five helicopters, at least 16 people were injured, including seriously. Doctors responding to the scene did not rule out that the number of dead could rise even more. Information on the identity of the victims is not yet available.

The A9 motorway connecting Berlin and Munich was closed in both directions at the location.

Flixbus spokesman Sebastien Meyer said the cause of the tragedy was not yet known. “We are of course working closely with the local authorities and emergency services and will do everything we can to clarify the cause of the accident as quickly and as thoroughly as possible,” he said.
