Since the beginning of the year, the Russians have already conquered 100 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory

Since the beginning of this year, the Russian invasion army has managed to occupy almost 100 square kilometers in Ukraine. Since last October, when the Russians launched their winter offensive, they have conquered 505 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory. This was stated by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), according to today’s report by the Union agency.

According to ISW, there was an overall slight increase in the speed of the Russian advance. Conversely, US analysts said Ukrainian armed forces had slowed the pace of the Russian advance west of Avdijivka after Russian troops captured the town on February 17.

Analysts say the lack of weapons limits the ability of Ukraine’s armed forces to conduct effective defensive operations. This also provides attackers with flexibility in conducting offensive operations.

ISW notes that sufficient and regular Western aid to Ukraine and addressing mobilization issues in Ukraine would narrow opportunities for Russian occupiers and provide Ukrainian armed forces with the ability to stop Russian troops in smaller tactical operations.

On Friday night, the Russians carried out a powerful missile and airstrike on facilities in Ukraine’s fuel and energy industry.
