Saturday’s Pohlreich burned out on the grill. Has a new series of Yes, Boss! any sense at all?

Last Saturday was to be marked by a new culinary show, which Prima TV wanted without pretense to attract the numerous viewers of Czech Television, who watched for long winter weeks how The whole country is burning. According to the chosen concept, Prima probably expected that Czechs not only like to bake, but also grill (which is certainly true in the coming warm months) and after a flood of sweet buns, they will be craving a proper steak. Unclear concept and uninteresting contestants, but they caused viewers to barbecue outside on Saturdays rather than watching TV.

Czechs like to bake, but not grill? Or did the TV just miscalculate?

The phenomenon of competition The whole country is burning he won in a row throughout every winter Saturday until the recent finale, which attracted 1.2 million viewers. On the contrary, competing television, just like on Sundays The meaning of the tumor, sadly recounted much lower numbers and eagerly awaited their chance when the contest was over. So Nova immediately rushed in with its proven competition Super huntingwhich drags on the audience Wonders of natureand Prima already mentioned “Pohlreich on the grill”, with which she wanted to drag (literally) hungry viewers from ČT1 to her channel. She miscalculated.

While Saturday Super hunting attacked almost 800,000 viewers and Wonders of nature still a respectable 665,000, Czech Republic on the grill let alone 333,000 viewers older than 15 years. If you are unfamiliar with TV statistics (and you probably don’t read my articles much, haha), then simple math in the Czech Republic means that if a TV news in prime time attracts less than 600,000, it is not good. If the viewership does not even reach 400 thousand and continues to decrease, it is almost a disaster. Anything below 200,000 is already a failure of “Eliščina” proportions.

Just since the new year, TV viewers have regularly made it clear what they will spend their evening time watching, and what they won’t. ČT1 is currently experiencing this every Sunday with a flop This will be explained, comrades!Nova with disastrous Survivorwhich is being criticized from all sides, and Prima s “Trotting in a Sleeping Bag”which said goodbye to an embarrassing 281 thousand (pro-Palestinian) viewers this Monday.

The audience did not understand the new grilling competition and yawned

Czech Republic on the grill is a much bigger failure for Prima than a Trot, as the ambition was to attack the million mark like u The whole country is burning, which didn’t even make it a quarter, and will most certainly drop even lower on the next Saturdays, if there’s anywhere. Compared to ČT, Komerční Prima, of course, lives from advertisements, so it will have to quickly figure out how to solve the problems with the multi-part competition losing viewers in time or move it elsewhere.

Did the program suffer from the participation of a peculiar television chef with a cut mouth, for whom this is already the umpteenth cooking show since the rocket success Yes Boss!or viewers were confused by a strangely mixed competition concept resembling a mix The whole country is burning with MasterChef unclear. Maybe both are to blame. So few people saw the first episode that it’s hard to come up with objective comments on the internet.

Nevertheless, it is more than clear that the viewers are mainly bothered by the uninteresting selection of contestants who have not even performed in any way so far and the viewers have no reason to cheer for them. In addition, each of them took grilling in their own way, sometimes even with minimal use of the grill, yet no one was eliminated in the first episode. Pohlreich is also accompanied here Martin Svatek he finds himself in the uncomfortable situation of a commentator rather than an active cook. The role of the redundant pair of moderators is completely incomprehensible Tomáš Zástěra and Patrícia Pagačováwithout which the competition would be easy to get by and would be better off.

Prima now has to worry about his fate Yes, boss! 2

Such a result is at the same time a raised finger towards the emerging sequel for Prima’s management Yes Boss!, which made Zdenek Pohlreich famous 16 years ago and which is coming back after 6 years despite Pohlreich’s earlier statement that the concept is exhausted and there is nowhere to push it further. On the other hand, the level of Czech gastronomy has not improved that much, and many restaurateurs deserve a proper lens for what they bring to their guests’ plates. And who else should cut them than “Zdenda” again.

While I am very much looking forward to the second series, I understand that for many viewers on TV it is already “overhyped” and his unique personality is no longer as attractive, original and funny as it was years ago. His return may also initially look like an attempt to earn more money and repeat the huge success of the first series for television. However, it could at least help Czech restaurants to bring the necessary boost after covid times and at a time of significant decline in attendance. Yes Boss! 2 we will see next year at the earliest.
