Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour comes out with a new song

--

The record began to be created in the time of covid and was then recorded for five months in studios in Brighton and London. It was produced by Gilmour himself and Charlie Andrew, who is best known for his collaborations with the groups Alt-J, Bloc Party, Wolf Alice and the singer Marika Hackmanová.

The lyrics for the album were written by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s wife and at the same time his most frequent collaborator on lyrics for the last thirty years. “It’s written from the perspective of old age,” she said.

Gilmour explained: “During covid I spent a lot of time discussing and thinking about things like mortality.”

Eight of the nine tracks on his fifth solo album are original. They will be accompanied by a cover of Between Two Points by The Montgolfier Brothers. Other members of the Gilmour family also joined the project. Daughter Romana contributed vocals and played the harp in the aforementioned cover version, son Gabriel joined in on vocals, and son Charlie wrote the lyrics for the final track Scattered.

The visual side of the album was taken care of by photographer Anton Corbijn, who is known, among other things, for his collaborations with Depeche Mode and U2.
