Former top state prosecutor Zeman is moving from the judiciary to the CNB

--

The former supreme prosecutor Pavel Zeman submitted his resignation from the post of prosecutor at the end of January. Diary N wrote that the reason is a career change. From April, Zeman will act as an adviser to the governor of the Czech National Bank (ČNB) Aleš Michl.

Zeman is said to be leaving the judiciary permanently. “I want to try something different, and after a long time spent at the public prosecutor’s office, I decided to work at the Czech National Bank as an adviser to the governor in the area of law and cyber security,” he told the server.

During his career at the head of the public prosecution, he had to solve a number of cases and challenges faced by the public prosecution system. One of them is, for example, the Čapí hnízdo case concerning ex-prime minister Andrej Babiš (ANO).

Last December, Zeman failed in the prestigious election of new judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which took place at the United Nations in New York.

“The candidate nominated by the Czech Republic JUDr. Pavel Zeman, whose qualities and expertise were appreciated by the partners during the campaign, unfortunately did not receive a sufficient number of votes in the highly competitive election and was not elected,” Daniel Drake, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Seznam Zprávám at the time.

14 reported qualified candidates applied for six positions. During 11 voting rounds, candidates from Mongolia, Romania, France, Slovenia, Tunisia and South Korea were successively elected.
