The trial of 40-year-old worker Radek B. for a serious crime began at the Ústí Regional Court today, Monday, March 25. The native of Most was supposed to have tried to murder his older brother, who lived in the same house, on the ground floor of a block of flats in Litvínov last year on August 25.

According to the indictment, the incident happened in the early evening of the fateful day and the man attacked while slightly drunk. He equipped himself with a folding knife with a blade length of around 8 centimeters. He called his brother outside on his way back from the convenience store to come down. The brother did come, anticipating a fight after previous disagreements, armed with a baton. The accused started stabbing him in a frenzy in the head, back and other places. And despite the fact that the brother tried to defend himself with a kick and blows from a baton, he received a total of 9 blows. These required stitches and splints. The treatment did not exceed 6 weeks, the man’s health was not immediately threatened and today he is probably free of consequences. But with such a large-scale attack, there was also the threat of the necessity of an operation. “It was only by chance that there was no more serious health disorder and threat to life,” pointed out public prosecutor Barbora Jorová.

The man denies guilt, referring to long-term disputes with his brother. “I just wanted to fight with him for the suggestions he made to me,” he said, specifying that his brother was supposed to go and vouch for him to obtain a trade license according to their agreement, but despite repeated promises, he did not do so. Today, Radek B. tried to convince the members of the senate that he attacked in a state of insanity. “The fact that I bought that knife that day was a stupid coincidence, I only had it to work for a snack. If I wanted to do it, I could have taken a knife from home,” added the man, adding that he learned about what actually happened only later, and regrets the act. According to the defendant’s statement, there were long-term disputes between the brothers, the victim allegedly threatened to kill him himself, and there had already been physical conflicts between them or mediated through a friend.

He saved his brother on his phone as “try… son”

It is said that in the last weeks before the incident, Radek B. feared for his life and that of his family so much that he wanted to move and lived in hotels to avoid him. “We were one day away from moving out. I tried to slip out of the barracks. That day was perfect, my girlfriend and I went to look at a new apartment, I don’t know what got into me,” said the man. The brother, whom Radek B. had stored in his phone as “experimental son”, did not participate in the trial. Judge Vladimíra Kodatová read his statement in the preliminary hearing, where he described that he did not want to vouch for his business because then he would have to supervise him. And he didn’t want that, perhaps because he also described how his brother used to have problems with drugs. The injured party added that before the incident, his brother taped the lock, set the door on fire and cursed him in the hallway.

A man faces sixteen years in prison for the violent death of a child on the street in Most

The attempted crime is classified as premeditated or premeditated murder, and the man is sentenced to 12-20 years. The public prosecutor suggests a sentence at the lower limit of the rate, perhaps also because of how the attack turned out in the end. “There was no penetration of the wounds into the body cavities,” the experts said in the medical report, adding that the perpetrator made lunges with the knife with medium to high intensity. Today, the court was still playing several camera recordings that captured the event, and was conducting further evidence. As the president of the senate told the journalists, the trial today will be adjourned until Tuesday, March 26, when a verdict is not excluded.
