International Dance Weeks are the oldest Czech, and probably also Central European, festival of contemporary dance, which arose from the tradition of regular seminars and performances of the Charles University Dance Center with foreign artists and teachers in the first half of the 1980s. Since 1972, the center has been the first pedagogical and artistic workplace in our country, where modern dance techniques and jazz were systematically taught, which were subsequently applied in artistic practice. It acquired many important contacts in all major European countries and the USA for this purpose. International dance weeks have always been a kind of exchange of these contacts and an exceptional showcase of contemporary dance creations. The goal of the festival is the presentation and confrontation of the results of work in recent seasons. Participants inspire each other, refine their opinions and establish business contacts. Viewers can also compare, rate and get an overview of what’s happening in the dance industry.
