Josef Rebenda from the Brno University of Technology received an award for his nomination for the DZS Award 2023. The project Boosting Sustainable Digital Education for European Universities (BoostEdU), which he coordinated, was nominated in the Digitization category. The award is given annually by the Czech national agency for international education and research, the House of Foreign Cooperation (DZS), which falls under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

The aim of the BoostEdU project was to document the pedagogical and technological principles that are important for the development of modern digital education and to propose a basic structure for the digital recognition of educational outcomes. The project was created in response to an extraordinary call in the Erasmus+ program from 2020, which focused on readiness in digital education.

The expert team led by Josef Rebenda created a digital education methodology, which includes interactive simulations, texts, videos, quizzes, games and other innovative forms of educational materials. Furthermore, the experts prepared a report on the current situation and the potential of using blockchain technology for the recognition of results in tertiary education in the Czech Republic and partner countries, i.e. in Romania, Norway and Iceland.

As part of the project, four workshops, two online trainings and other events took place. But its greatest contribution was the sharing of ideas and experiences, thanks to which the partner organizations developed new digital learning materials and activities. These will serve students to better understand the topics discussed.

Other awarded projects were devoted to inclusion and diversity, participation, flexibility and innovation, sustainability and internationalization. Awards were also given to exceptional individuals leaving the Czech Republic or, conversely, coming to the Czech Republic.

“Today’s world brings many challenges to the education system. These concern not only the need to support education in intercultural understanding, ensuring equal opportunities, but also the application of digital trends or sustainable principles. At the House of Foreign Cooperation, we believe that programs enabling international experience are the answer,” described DZS director Michal Uhl.
