The confusion allegedly happened between two foreign women. One of them came to the hospital for a procedure that is performed during the treatment of the uterus and can also be used to terminate the pregnancy, the other – a pregnant – woman arrived at the doctors for a routine check-up. She miscarried due to a terrible mistake by the staff. Hospital spokeswoman Eva Stolejda Libigerová confirmed the incident for television.
“On Monday, March 25, an adverse event occurred at our Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic. According to the findings so far, as a result of a serious violation and non-compliance with internal regulations by the employees concerned, an operation was started on an incorrectly identified patient,” she said, adding that the hospital employees responsible for the mistake have been suspended and an internal investigation is underway. The hospital is said to take personal responsibility if a violation of work procedures is found.
She added that the hospital has apologized to the patient and is working to ensure that the woman is properly compensated.
“The Ministry of Health was informed by the director of the hospital and the head of the gynecology-obstetrics clinic about the adverse event that happened at the Bulovka University Hospital on March 25 of this year. The Ministry of Health expresses its deep regret to the patient and the entire family. There has been an inexcusable human factor failure and the culprits are removed from service. “We will continue to be informed by FN Bulovka about the next steps towards the employees who made a mistake, and we will resolve the situation,” said Jakob.
