The proof is the revelation of the Russian network, which was supposed to influence political events not only here, but even throughout Europe.

The war in Ukraine concerns us

I very often hear or read in various discussions that the war between Russia and Ukraine does not really concern us. That, simply put, it is not our war. However, in this case it is not quite true. She affects us whether we like it or not. It would not concern us only if Russia itself did not involve us in it in the form of false propaganda and efforts to influence events in our country.

It’s surprising, given how small a country (that is, the area) we are, that we are in the center of interest for Russia. And we were even before the war. One cannot naively think that if we stopped supporting Ukraine – and it does not matter so much what specific form of support it is – that Russia’s interest in what is happening in our country would be relegated to the sidelines.

But somehow I cannot understand why Russia cares so much about what is happening here, or what government is in power. His interest did not subside even when Miloš Zeman, who never made any secret of his affection for this great power, lived in the castle.

Zeman’s attitude towards Russia deviated slightly from the set course only at the moment when the BIS rushed to find out that the Russian FSB was behind the events in Vrbětice.

This was further evidence that our secret services work for the benefit of the country regardless of the political situation in our country. Which is a pleasant discovery for me personally. We simply cannot find many institutions that do not work in the political interest of the ruling group. I am not saying that all of them are working only for the benefit of the government, but on the other hand, there are also those where there is not much to discuss about it.

It was the events in Vrbětice that showed that Russia is not our friend and always pursues its own interests first. However, it amazes me how everything around has become somewhat quiet. After a pompous press conference, where the then top representatives of the State Security Council, led by Jan Hamáček and Andrej Babiš, met.

To this day, I still remember the drama of the whole situation, when one willy-nilly got the impression that there are agents sharper than James Bond on our territory. And they are from Russia. But then nothing, silence along the footpath. Are Vrbětice forgotten?

They are apparently no longer in the interest of politicians, but I have no doubt that interest in them has not abated in the BIS. The security services work quietly, inconspicuously. Are there new insights into the whole event? Maybe so, but we will find out when the time is right. This is precisely the masterwork of the secret services.

Russia is simply our enemy

Russian interest in events in our country does not stop. On the contrary, I think that their interest has increased significantly. Of course, our foreign policy also plays a role in this. But this is an area that we finally don’t have to be ashamed of and that clearly declares where we want to belong. We don’t want to be part of the Eastern bloc anymore. We want to be a respected Western Bloc country.

However, it is necessary to take off the rose-colored glasses and stop thinking that Russia is not attacking us. This is not an attack with conventional weapons, at least not yet. They attack our democratic system subtly and systematically. They are trying to destroy our society from within by spreading false propaganda. And we see that she is doing well every day.

And it is the latest findings of the BIS that have been able to point to and uncover this problem, which is the most convincing evidence that could have been put before us. Russia is not interested in fighting us on the battlefield, it is only interested in fragmenting our society. They want to subtly influence who we will vote for and what we will think.

Ukraine was in a similar situation. And we should not forget that. We can learn from this situation. Unfortunately, Ukraine did not have the luxury of learning. However, we should not waste this opportunity.

I believe that BIS will continue to do their work as they have been doing so far. And I am really glad that the Czech secret services are doing everything to make our country safe not only for our generations, but also for future generations.
