In March, 23 people died in traffic accidents in the Czech Republic, a third less than last year

Prague – In March, 23 people died in traffic accidents in the Czech Republic, which is about a third less than last year. There are also significantly fewer seriously injured than a year ago. This follows from preliminary statistics on the police website and information from ČTK. Last March, 34 people died on Czech roads. The total number of tragic accidents for this March may be changed by other possible accidents today.

Roughly seven dozen people were seriously injured in March this year, compared to more than a hundred last year. The number of seriously injured as well as the number of dead is about a third less than in March 2023.

So far, the last tragic accident this March was an accident in Pardubice, where a driver died after hitting a fence in Ve Lhotkách Street. Another accident today happened shortly after midnight in Brno. A passenger car in Sportovní ulica went off the road to a construction site. One person died and two others ended up in hospital with injuries after the car crashed into the traverse.

Similar to last year, there were several days with record temperatures in March this year. Several motorcyclists were among the accident victims. This year, tragic accidents involving motorcyclists happened mainly at the end of the month. For example, on March 26, a motorcyclist died on the D1 highway in Benešovsk after crashing into the center barriers when, according to the police, he did not adjust his speed to the road condition and his abilities.

In January and February this year, the number of victims of traffic accidents was similar to the same months last year. According to police statistics, 40 people died in January last year, and the number of accident victims in January this year was also 40. There were 27 deaths in February 2023 and 28 in February this year.
