The European Olympiad of Experimental Sciences (EOES), in which the best teams of young high school students from the European Union and Ukraine compete, took place this year in Luxembourg. With the participation of mentors from the Czech national rounds of the Olympic Games, Czech high school students brought home a gold and a silver medal. The Golden Czechs even became absolute winners of the entire competition!

The EOES (European Olympiad of Experimental Science) competition is attended by three-member teams consisting of a chemist, a biologist and a physicist, who are no more than 17 years old. Together, during the competition week, they solve two very challenging tasks, which are focused experimentally and their solution requires a comprehensive knowledge of all three disciplines. Two competition teams are usually broadcast from each participating country.

At international competitions, it is customary that gold medals are awarded to approx. 10% of the best teams, silver medals to another approx. 30% of teams, and the remaining teams receive bronze medals.

Teams from the Czech Republic regularly have excellent results in this competition, and have been winning gold and silver medals for several years in a row. This year, in the competition of 45 teams from 23 countries of the European Union and one team from Ukraine, our B team won silver medals for 16th place out of 46, and our A team was the absolute winner of this competition!

The student teams were composed of the best 17-year-old participants in the biology, physics and chemistry olympiads. On the basis of the training session, which took place in Hradec Králové, two teams were selected, in which high school students from Prague, Brno, Dvor Králové nad Labem and České Budějovice were represented.
