Saturday’s cancellation of the previously well-attended Gastro Brod festival was met with a wave of criticism and subsequent controversy on social networks. His whistle blew at the last moment, mainly due to the rainy weather of the previous days. The organizers were also criticized for not moving the event to a more acceptable location.
The traditional space for this gastronomic event is the grassy location above the JA Comenius Museum, which, however, became unsuitable after heavy rain. The organizers made a big splash by declaring on the posters that they would organize the Gastro Brod festival in any weather.

Well, given that a number of other events took place in the region under the open sky that day, for example at KOVOZOO in the Old Town, on the outdoor platform 14|15 of the Bať Institute in Zlín, on Masaryk Square in Uherské Hradiště or on the cycle path around Dolní Němčí, the question arises as to why the organizers in Uherské Brod did not decide to move to one of the several possible places without a waterlogged foundation.
It’s a shame and not only because of the event’s popularity. Let us therefore hope that the organizers of the Gastro Brod festival in Uhersko Brod will learn from this year’s past and at least not promise something that they are not able to keep in future years.
