Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali has been charged by the FA with betting offences. The 23-year-old Italian international is already serving a ten-month suspension for the same offence, which he received last October from the home federation, and FIFA subsequently confirmed the punishment worldwide.

The FA began investigating Tonali last November to determine whether he continued to bet on football in the Premier League after joining from AC Milan in the summer. She has now accused the midfielder of at least 50 bets on football matches between August 12 and October 12, 2023. The player has until April 5 to comment on the case.

Tonali made just 12 appearances following his summer move to Newcastle before being handed a 10-month ban. He received a total of 18 months in the betting scandal that affected Italian football. As part of the agreement with the Italian union and the prosecutor’s office, he will serve eight months in an alternative way and undergo therapy.
