Three Fenerbahce players face disciplinary proceedings due to clashes with Trabzonspor fans, who attacked the Istanbul club’s players on the pitch on March 17, celebrating a 3-2 victory. It was announced by the Turkish Football Federation today.

Nigerian international Bright Osayi-Samuel, Dutch defender Jayden Oosterwolde and Irfan Can Egribayat face penalties. Two Fenerbahce officials and Trabzonspor assistant coach Egemen Korkmaz are also summoned to the disciplinary commission.

The Turkish police detained 13 Trabzonspor fans after the scandalous end of the league match, five of whom were detained. Last week, Trabzonspor general secretary Kemal Ertürk called their detention unfair and called for the supporters’ speedy release.

The incident was condemned by Turkish officials and politicians, as well as the head of the FIFA World Federation, Gianni Infantino. Fenerbahce representatives have announced that they will consider withdrawing the team from the top league. For this reason, they called an extraordinary general meeting on Tuesday, April 2. Fenerbahce is second in the league table, two points behind Galatasaray.
