A frat boy or a fashion fad like Alex Ovechkin? Anyway, the tinted label appeared on William Nylander’s helmet in September 2022 for a different, more serious reason. The Swedish superstar revealed at the time that she resorted to changing plexiglass because of recurring migraines. Now he is dealing with an insidious disease again.

The tinted label was supposed to help him mitigate the impact of harsh light and sharp contrasts.

And for a long time it seemed that Nylander had found a solution to prevent migraines.

But at the moment he is dealing with pain so severe that team doctors have examined him with the suspicion that he has a concussion.

It is an unanswered question when the 28-year-old forward will be ready to jump into the series with the Boston Bruins.

The insidious thing about migraines is that they are an unpredictable disease. Nylander participated in Toronto’s last two skates, but missed all three games.

He appeared seemingly uncomplicated, without any obvious limiting injury. But that’s the problem. The migraine might subside for training, but then return just as quickly. And probably even more intense.

It is clear that the Maple Leafs are missing a productive fighter. In the regular season, he attacked the hundred-point mark, he is one of the main offensive drivers of Keefe’s squad.

He himself was undoubtedly looking forward to a fight with his “twin”, a great friend from his teenage years in Scandinavia, David Pastrňák.

But for the time being, the keenly watched series is deprived of the duel of the 1980s.

Remarkably, in the past Nylander has played despite migraines and has been incredibly resilient, currently logging his first absence since November 2016.

However, the current headaches are bothering him too much, they haven’t let him into the playoffs yet. Will it go away before the season ends for the traditional club that has been waiting for the Stanley Cup since 1967?

Currently, the situation for the Maple Leafs is unfavorable: 1:2 in matches.

Toronto would desperately need Nylander. If only because of his long-term balance from elimination fights (39 points in 50 matches).
