Although I recently celebrated the birthday of Christ, I still have my father’s ass, who would like me to realize his dreams. He forgets that it is a different time, and that I am already an adult and have my own life. And plans.

As a child I was completely defenseless against my father

Even when I was little, my father pushed me into activities that I didn’t like. “I want my son to do what I couldn’t!” he shouted, adding that I was definitely up to it. So already at the age of six I had to get up early in the morning and my father would drag me across the city to football practices.

He wanted to be a football player! When it didn’t work out, he moved me to hockey, it was even worse – and the worst were the reproaches like: “What’s wrong with you, I made it to the youth team, you have to try harder!” I didn’t make it anywhere.

I felt like a trained monkey

Not that the father was a communist, but he really liked Lenin’s saying: “Learn learn learn!” He kept repeating that to me. So, as a schoolboy, I had to stand at attention every night when he came home and report what was at school.

As soon as I got even a deuce, the fire was on the roof. Visiting my tasks, he found time for that, chatting with me, asking how I am, no, he never had time for that. I felt like a trained monkey and looked forward to being free from my father’s influence.

My father plans my life even when I am an adult

Choosing a college? “Right,” father stated. “There’s the money! And I always wanted to do them.’ Surprisingly, I got on them and managed to graduate them – albeit with scraped ears. But then my father talked me into choosing a law firm, where I should join, and into future life plans.

I won’t even add that I’m still single today because he didn’t like any of my girlfriends and he was able to annoy her so much that she preferred to break up with me. And, by the way, my mother was never able to contradict him and hold me.

He is my father, I like him, he never hit me, never raised his voice at me, I understand that he only wants the best for me – as an only son. But the older he gets, the more grumpy he gets and he doesn’t like a lot of things. In the end, I chose a tactic: I will listen to everything and do it my way. But the bitterness from my strange childhood and youth unfortunately remains in me.
