Continuing his historic rookie season, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama turned in another incredible performance in Tuesday night’s game vs. the Denver Nuggets. Finishing with 23 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, and 9 blocked shots, Wembanyama became just the third player in NBA history to post that line in a game, and the only rookie to ever do it (per Basketball Reference’s StatHead).

The other two recorded instances of this line or better in a game were by Hakeem Olajuwon in 1990, and Chris Webber in 1999. As previously mentioned, both of these players were much further along in their NBA careers than the rookie Wembanyama currently is.

It is worth mentioning that blocks were first officially recorded in the 1973-74 season, so it is a possibility that such a line could have been recorded prior to then, but it would not appear in any current database searches.

Wembanyama has continued to improve as his rookie season has progressed. Finishing the year strong, Wembanyama is entering the offseason with a lot of momentum, and should come back in year two as an even better player than he was in his rookie year.

The Spurs are not headed to the postseason, but they are finishing the year with a lot of positive signs that they hope can translate into a much better season next year than the one they had this year.
