Israel’s military said on Thursday it had killed more than 200 militants from the Palestinian militant group Hamas in an ongoing crackdown on Gaza’s Shifa hospital. This was reported by The Times of Israel (ToI) news website. The soldiers, with the help of tanks, launched a raid on the hospital on March 18.

This was based on intelligence that high-ranking Hamas officials were hiding in the compound. The hospital also serves as a shelter for Palestinian refugees.

According to the Israeli armed forces, during the past day, members of Hamas, who had barricaded themselves in the emergency room of the hospital, ran out and started shooting at the soldiers. According to the army, this situation has been repeated several times in recent days.

Civilian patients and medical staff were evacuated to another wing of the hospital due to the fighting, according to the military. The military says it has prepared this part of the hospital so that doctors can continue to properly care for patients there.

Over the past day, the army, according to its statement, also killed dozens of militants in two neighborhoods of Khan Younis in the south of the Gaza Strip. The army also said it discovered a weapons cache in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
