The drivers of the bus that crashed near Leipzig on Wednesday were Czech and Slovak. This was announced on Thursday by the Saxon police, who at the same time reduced the number of dead from the originally reported five to four. According to the original police information, the drivers are not among the victims. Ten people were seriously injured in the crash, and another 29 people suffered minor injuries. The police have not yet specified the details of the dead and injured.

54 people were traveling on the FlixBus bus on the route from Berlin to Zurich, Switzerland, including a 62-year-old Czech driver and his 53-year-old Slovak colleague, whom the police identified as a substitute driver.

The police corrected the announced balance of five dead to four. The reason for the originally reported number was the critical condition of one of the injured, whose life was in immediate danger.

The accident happened near Leipzig on the A9 highway, which connects Berlin with Munich. The bus crashed near the junction of the A9 with the A14 motorway from Magdeburg to Dresden. The cause of the accident has not yet been published, according to the media, the bus suddenly went off the highway into a ditch, where it overturned.

The injured were helped shortly after the accident by paramedics who happened to be passing by in another bus. In this second bus, paramedics also provided assistance to two other people who, according to the police, suffered shock.
