The tourist season starts, on Maundy Thursday the gates of Buchlova Castle and Buchlovice Castle, the two most visited cultural monuments in the Uherskohradišť region, will open. The visitors of Mr. Chřibů will probably not be pleased with the twenty percent increase in the entrance fee, but the established system of discounts still applies.

“We are increasing the entrance fee after two years, the reason being the rising costs of managing the monuments and also the cost-saving measures of the Ministry of Culture. For all the monuments in our administration, the entrance fee for adults changes by six percent on average,” explained Dagmar Šnajdarová, spokeswoman for the Kroměříž National Monument Institute.

For half of the monuments, the entrance fee for adults on the basic circuits increased by 20 crowns, at 15 by 40 crowns and at three by 60 crowns. For a quarter of the objects, the prices of the basic sightseeing tours remained the same. “Buchlov Castle is one of the fifteen monuments where we raised the entrance fee by 40 crowns, i.e. an adult will now pay 240 crowns for the basic sightseeing tour. Buchlovice Castle, on the other hand, is the only one where we don’t change the price of the basic entrance fee,” said Šnajdarová, adding that the monuments are prepared in the best possible condition and the coincidence of the Easter holidays and the first weekend of the season promises a spectacular start. “The interest of visitors is gradually increasing, last year 253,791 tourists visited the monuments in the Zlín Region – Buchlov Castle, Buchlovice, Vizovice and Květná zahrad in Kroměříž – which is an increase of 27,271 people year-on-year. Not only Czech visitors are returning, but foreign visitors are also increasing, especially from Slovakia, Poland, Austria and Asian countries,” the spokeswoman recalled.

Buchlov will start the season by festively decorating the interior of the castle with spring flowers, its visitors will experience Easter on Sunday and Monday. In the renovated Hunter’s Lounge, they will be treated to a demonstration of decorating Easter eggs, lace-making, and maybe even knit an Easter pom-pom made of young willow wicker. Tourists will not miss the traditional night tours either, Buchlov Nights with the Black Lady will take place on July 26 and 27.

The castle park in Buchlovice can be accessed on weekends from March 1, the interiors of the baroque gem will be opened on March 28 together with the Tulipomania exhibition, which is a reminder of the tulip fever in the years 1634-1637 in Holland. Even the castle rooms come alive in spring and Easter. The season’s itinerary also includes traditional events such as Kosecké songs, Roses in the Castle or the Garlic Festival. “Even if this year we start a three-year general repair of the roofs and ceilings of the lower castle, visitor traffic will remain in standard mode throughout the construction period,” added Šnajdarová.
