At the Regional Court in Ústí nad Labem, the trial continued on Wednesday with a man who, according to the indictment, wanted to murder his lover with a knife in Most last year. But instead he stabbed the little boy in the neck, who died afterwards. Among other things, witness statements were heard at the court.

The escort brought the defendant, 32-year-old Michal P., to the court from the remand prison. The four-year-old boy was supposed to have stabbed the four-year-old boy with a knife on the street in Most during an argument with his father. “During the boy’s autopsy, we discovered a serious injury in the form of a deep stab wound on the left side of the neck, which reached the bone,” said forensic expert Andrea Vlčková.

It follows from the investigation attempt that the attacked man was holding his child in his arms on his chest during the attack. “All the actors were under the influence of drugs. The injured party, the elderly Italian father, attacked the child’s mother there and our client defended her. Unfortunately, the incident resulted in the death of a child,” said Daniel Volák, the defendant’s defense attorney.

The defense is trying to convince the court that the father took the four-year-old boy as a shield against the attacker. “In any case, he would have suffered a serious neck injury, on one side or the other. It doesn’t really matter if it is turned one way or another during the lunge, the vascular structures that were broken are located on both sides and are relatively easily accessible,” said Vlčková.

The entire incident was seen by a large number of people. The judge read their statements. “They were fighting, then after a moment of fighting, the Italian got up, took the child, crouched down, and then they stabbed him,” the judge quoted one of the statements. “He took him completely on himself and Míša went and probably hit him in the artery,” the judge described in another of the statements.

The trial will continue on Thursday. “Tomorrow, the questioning of the expert who examined the defendant’s mental state will continue. The child’s mother will also be heard,” said public prosecutor Klára Kubátová. The judge did not rule out that he would tighten the legal qualification for the accused man from manslaughter to child murder. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
