PREMIERE: For the first time in Prague by trolleybus

--

I have been using public transport since I was young, regularly since I was fifteen. I have developed a positive relationship with her and I like to get to know the news.

*****

One of them is the introduction of trolleybus transport in Prague to Ruzyne Airport. It started on March 6 this year, and since I’m not from Prague, I had to wait until it was my turn to visit relatives in the capital.

It didn’t take long, on Friday, March 22, my moment came. The woman had her schedule (hairdresser) and I could go. The journey started at the Sídliště Zahradní město stop… and there is more in the photo collection.

… a twenty-six-year-old woman arrives. She will take me to metro station A Strašnická, from there I will head to Nádraží Veleslavín. (Photo here and below: Author of the blog.)

… near the Strašnická metro station, I was interested in two apartment buildings – blocks of flats for the 21st century. Yes, there is another way.

… Prague blossoms.

… exiting the subway after twenty minutes. At Nádraží Veleslavín station. The trolleybus line to Václav Havel Airport starts here.

… that’s the key change. Number of the line and means of transport. But to make no mistake, buses were not completely excluded from route 59. Although Solaris trolleybuses dominate.

… after a short wait, the desired moment arrives. For the first time in my life, I enter a trolleybus in Prague. It is Friday, March 22, 2024, 9:55 a.m. CET. Both pantographs are raised, the car will be powered by electricity from overhead contact lines for the next twelve kilometers.

… the trolleybus ends after a ten-minute ride at Terminal 3, i.e. at “staré Ruzyna”. Here the driver disconnected the collector, a bang was heard on the roof and the car continued on the batteries. About seven kilometers to Terminal 1.

… trolleybus at the airport Terminal 1 stop. Be careful here. After arriving at Terminal 1, the car continues to Terminal 2, but does not go back to the center of Prague. If you would arrive by plane and want to continue to Prague by trolleybus 59, you must use the adjacent stop (closer to Terminal 2 – everything is properly marked).

… at the airport, I first strengthened myself in the Runway self-service restaurant with a good borscht and then went on a short tour of the hall. On the ground floor of Terminal 2 there is a unique exhibition – an anamorphic portrait of Václav Havel. At first glance, it is a loosely assembled hundreds of various objects. However, they are all related to Havel’s life. And not only that.

… the magic of this installation lies in the fact that if we look at it from a certain angle, or, as here, through an optical lens, we will see a portrait of Václav Havel. Something completely unique.

… the author of the installation is Patrik Proško. Basic information about the exposure is on this image.

… another attraction in the Terminal 2 hall is a giant, button-controlled, moving model of the Ruzyne airport. Children will especially appreciate it.

… and finally, lest we forget. We have been using the only metro in the Czech lands for half a century.
