“Today, the government approved another contribution from the Czech Republic to support Ukraine. It is about the involvement of the Czech Republic in the Czech initiative, which is very successful,” announced Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

According to him, around 20 countries have already joined the ammunition initiative, which Fiala explains by the fact that the states are aware that this is the only way to deliver the necessary ammunition to Ukraine in a short time, and at the same time they understand Russia’s threat to Europe. “It is extremely important for Ukraine that it knows that additional ammunition will arrive within weeks or months, and it can adapt its tactics accordingly,” he explained. The last time Slovenia joined the initiative was on Tuesday.

The goal of the initiative is to get the necessary ammunition for Ukraine defending against Russia, especially artillery calibers of 152 mm and 155 mm. Originally there was talk of buying 800,000 artillery shells, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Pirates) on Wednesday talked about the possibility of supplying 1.5 million shells in the future, but this may not be the final number.

“The Czech initiative offers know-how and solutions that we have tested before we are able to increase the capacities of the defense industry in Europe. We won’t be able to do that this year, so we are bridging the critical period with this initiative,” concluded the Prime Minister.

The latest information says that the money from the involved states is for the purchase of the first 300,000 pieces of ammunition, and another 500,000 is being negotiated.
