CNN Prima News was the first to report on the case, according to which it concerns foreign women permanently living in the Czech Republic. While the pregnant woman went for a routine check-up, the doctors had to perform an operation on the other patient, which is done, for example, in the treatment of a diseased uterus, but can also be used to terminate the pregnancy.

“On Monday, March 25, an adverse event occurred at our gynecology and obstetrics clinic. According to the findings so far, as a result of a serious violation and non-compliance with internal regulations by the employees concerned, an operation was started on an incorrectly identified patient,” Bulovka spokeswoman Eva Stolejda Libigerová said in a press release.

“We expressed our deep regret and apology to the patient and her entire family for this unfortunate event and assured her that we will do everything to mitigate the damage as much as possible and also compensate her,” the spokeswoman added.

The relevant staff of the clinic was put out of service. “In the event that a serious violation of work procedures is found, personal responsibility will be imposed on specific health professionals,” said Stolejda Libigerová.
